Clinging to a granite cliff high above the Paro valley, Paro Taktsang — the Tiger's Nest — is Bhutan's most photographed sight and its most moving.
The story
Legend tells that Guru Rinpoche flew to this cliff on the back of a tigress to meditate in a cave, bringing Buddhism to Bhutan. The monastery built around that cave has drawn pilgrims for centuries.
The walk up
The ascent is a gradual climb through blue-pine forest, with a teahouse partway offering the classic view across the gorge. Taken slowly, with your guide setting an easy pace, it is as much a contemplative walk as a hike.
Making the most of the morning
We time the walk for the cool early hours, when the light is best and the crowds are thinnest. Afterwards, a long lunch back in the valley is the perfect close to the day.
The Tiger's Nest is the natural crescendo of a journey through western Bhutan — and we build the days around you being at your best for it.
