The Soul of Western Bhutan
An 8-Day Private Journey Through Paro, Thimphu & Punakha
Bhutan reveals itself slowly. Over eight unhurried days you cross the forested passes of the west — from the cliff-clinging Tiger's Nest to the great fortress of Punakha where two rivers meet — with time to sit in a monastery courtyard, share tea in a farmhouse, and let a kingdom that measures wealth in happiness set the pace.

Your route

Day by day
Each day begins with a feeling, not a checklist. Tap a day to open it.
Day 01Arrive Paro · Thimphu+
Your first glimpse of Bhutan comes on the spectacular descent into Paro, where the aircraft banks between forested Himalayan ridges. Your guide and driver meet you as you step into the mountain air, and you drive gently to the capital, Thimphu, settling into your lodge before an unhurried first evening.
Private tea overlooking the Thimphu valley as the light softens.
Day 02Thimphu, the living capital+
A full day in the only capital in the world without traffic lights — the great seated Buddha Dordenma above the valley, the National Memorial Chorten among circling pilgrims, and time behind the scenes with artisans keeping thirteen traditional crafts alive.
A quiet audience with a master painter at work.
Day 03Thimphu → Punakha, over Dochula+
You climb to the Dochula Pass, where 108 chortens crown the ridge and, on a clear morning, the eastern Himalaya line the horizon, then descend into the warm Punakha valley of rice terraces and river light.
Coffee at the pass among the prayer flags, snow peaks beyond.
Day 04The Punakha valley+
The day belongs to Punakha Dzong — arguably Bhutan's most beautiful fortress — set where the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers meet. You cross the traditional cantilever bridge and spend real time in its courtyards, then let the afternoon unwind at the lodge.
A private riverside picnic beneath the dzong walls.
Day 05Punakha → Paro+
An easy morning before the scenic drive back west to Paro, re-crossing the Dochula Pass. The afternoon is yours to rest, wander Paro town, or simply enjoy the lodge before tomorrow's ascent.
Farmhouse lunch with a local family en route.
Day 06The Tiger's Nest ascent+
The morning you have been waiting for: the walk up to Paro Taktsang, the Tiger's Nest, clinging to a sheer cliff 900 metres above the valley. You climb at your own pace, pausing at the cafeteria viewpoint, with the option to go all the way to the monastery itself.
The first full view of the monastery emerging from the mist.
Day 07Paro at leisure+
A gentle, open day to let the journey settle — a slow morning, time with artisans, or an optional excursion over the Chele La pass toward the hidden Haa valley.
A farewell dinner of Bhutanese specialities, privately arranged.
Day 08Departure+
After a relaxed breakfast, your guide accompanies you to Paro airport for your onward flight — leaving with the unhurried spirit of the kingdom, and an open invitation to return for the east.
