What it is
The SDF is a nightly contribution asked of visitors. Rather than a tax on entry, it is a direct investment in the country you have come to experience.
What it funds
The fee supports free healthcare and education for Bhutanese citizens, conservation of the country's forests and wildlife, and the preservation of its cultural heritage.
Why it matters
Bhutan's guiding idea is "High Value, Low Impact" — welcoming travellers in a way that protects the kingdom rather than eroding it. It is why the country remains so unspoilt, and why a visit feels like a privilege rather than a transaction.
